Word processors never display a cursor.

It is unnecessary to use the spacebar when typing long sentences.

No one ever makes typing errors.

All monitors display 2-inch-high letters.

The high-tech computers used by NASA, the CIA, or other governmental agencies, have easy-to-understand graphic interfaces. Those without have incredibly powerful, text-based command lines that understand plain English. Corollary: Anyone can access any information by simply typing "Access all secret files" on any keyboard.

You can infect a computer with a destructive virus by simply typing "Upload virus." Just as they do in humans, viruses raise a computer's temperature. Soon smoke will billow out of disk drives and monitors.

All computers are connected.

You can access information on any desktop computer, even when it's turned off.

Powerful computers beep whenever you press a key or whenever the screen changes. Some computers also slow down the screen output to reading speed. Really advanced ones emulate the sound of a dot-matrix printer as characters appear on-screen.

All computer panels have thousands of volts and flash pots just beneath their surface. Malfunctions are always indicated by bright flashes, puffs of smoke, showers of sparks, and explosions that throws people backwards.

After typing on a computer, you may safely turn it off without saving the data, naming the file, or specifying its location.

Any "Permission Denied" message has an "Override" function.

So animation is pretty cool. 'Cept there's just one little problem, animating humans, especially their faces, is extremely time consuming and tricky. It can take days or even weeks to animate simple facial movements, and not have them come out looking stiffer than a board. ImageMetrics is hoping to fix that with their new technology, called LifeLike animation (which coincidentally is one of the most creative names I've heard of). Check out the video after the break. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close.

I love indie games. They always take the risk, try something new, explore new ideas. Here is another shining example. It's called Windowsill, and it is one of the artsiest games I've played yet. This game is best described as just a mindless puzzle game, with loads of quirks and twists. It has a small download footprint (about 4 Mbs) and runs all within itself. It does require the latest version of Adobe Flash, though. The free version only has half of the levels, but for a measly 3 dollars, you can own all the pastel goodness.

Tag: The Power of Paint is another wonderful creation from the guys over at DigiPen (the masterminds behind the ever-popular Portal). The premise is you run around, filling the monotone world with paint and joy. It is unfortunately not an "in-browser" game, but come on, we're all big boys and girls here. I've just been busy. Lately, I've been trying to build my own server, so I don't have to deal with Blogger's bulls***. It's slow going though.

So, for all of you who didn't spend all of your money on Philippino hookers and drugs and bought Portal instead, now you have a special treat! There is a mod called Portal: Prelude, and it picks up the story a few years before the official game does. Just download the file and install to have a whole new plethora of levels and witty diologe.

I have a sneaking supposition I've already posted this before, but after several minutes of looking, I think I'm good to post.

Alright, so it has been several months since I have last but my tiny splotch of garbage posts on the interwebs, and I apologize. I've had a few computer snafus along with just being lazy with the holidays. Hopefully though, I will get back into the swing of things and post much more regularly. To make up for lost time, here are a few things to help you pick out some last minute presents to waste your time and money:

Linux Inside Stickers:
So we've all seen the "Intel Inside" or "Runs on Windows" stickers, but here is a way to truly express your nerdy-ness and computer porous to all that choose to glance at your computer palm rest. Not only are these great stocking stuffers, but it's a great way to stick it to Steve Jobs and Gatesy-Boy.

Cotton Factory:
Unlike Jinx, this site may not have as many nerdy shirts, but it does have quite a large variety of more fashionable shirts. Also, another big plus is that many of the shirts are quite cheap, so that after you spend all your cash on usless gifts, you can treat yourself with a new Pee Wee Herman tee.

iTunes Genius Review

So Apple has released a new iTunes program called Genius. Basically, what it does is you can tell it a song you like, and it will find other songs like it. It seems to have a lot of potential, but it comes with a few flaws. Now, I haven't been using it for that long, so some problems may not of been discovered yet.

First things first, to use it, you first must let it access and send Apple your library information. This not only bugged me from a privacy point of view, but took forever. I have approximately 7000 songs (30 gbs) in my library, and Genius went through everyone, which took about 15-20 of painfully computer lagging minutes. It then uploads it to one of Apple's mysterious servers for analysis. At this point, it got a little fuzzy to what happend, because I assumed that Apple recognize certin songs and other songs like it and sends that info to your computer, but I'm still not sure. For all I know, this could just be a big scam by Apple to keep a eye on it's users (I wouldn't be surprised).

As for the privacy part of it, it kind of fails at life. It explains (and quite a lot) that it will perioticly upload your library to the server to keep Genius up to date, but only while Genius is enabled. If you would like to keep your library a secret from prying eyes, you can disable it. Although I'm not sure whats keeping Apple from just looking in anyways.

After getting it set up, and fixing a few problems of my own (a while back, iTunes crashed on me and I lost a lot of songs, and had to re-add them), I enabled it and set it up. It took a little while to find a song that it would work with. I went through at least 3 'till I found one that it could use, and it was odd, because they where big name bands (You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC, Walk This Way by Aerosmith just to name two.) After it found a song that it liked, it imedetly found 25 other songs like it, and it was fairly accurete. I tryied a few type of songs and genres (Emo, Rock, 70's, etc.) and it always found songs along those guide lines.

I think with a little polishing, and a disregard for your privacy, this could turn into a very useful app. All in all, if you have a lot of songs on your computer that you haven't listen too, or even know exist, this is a great way to discover new music. (6/10)

When did this happen?!? Look at the top viewed video. It's not "Evolution of Dance" like it's been since the beginning of time, it's "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne. I don't know about you, but this is kind of disturbing. It means that the once nerd infested video sharing site has been taken over by pre-teen girls, or nerds with bad taste in music.
